Product maintenance

  • To maintain proper operation and long service life, shafts and other moving parts should be lubricated regularly.

  • Lubrication* is recommended at least every 10,000 cycles when the tool is exposed to dirt or other contaminants.

  • The setting of the crimping die ranges should also be checked.

  • Adjustment of the pressure setting pin is necessary when the tool preload decreases significantly.

    • *Use a light non-mineral oil.

    Importance of high quality crimping

    When a crimping tool is used on a terminal, two crimps take place at the same time. One is the electrical connection between the conductor and the terminal. The other is the crimping of the insulation, which relieves vibration and stress. It is important that the electrical connection is gas-tight with no voids between the wire strands and the lug. If there are voids, corrosion can occur, causing resistance and excessive heat that damages the electrical connection.
